THE VISUAL EMPORIUM
PHOTOGRAPHS BY
MALCOLM LYONS

This is my vision of our beautiful
strange and sometimes dark world
I had the fortune to be born into a family of keen photographers. My father bought me a film camera on my eighth birthday, and from that moment, I became fascinated by capturing the visual world.
Extensive global travel, and my adventurous attitude to life, have bought me into contact with a universe of fascinating locations and interesting people.
My subjects are highly eclectic, including landscapes, architecture, conceptual work, some portraiture, and infrared photography.
Projects of note are “Of Dreams and Fantasy”. This is series of infrared images taken with Kodak Infrared film, shot in the UK, and in 2016 “The Joker's Emporium”, shot with a medium format digital camera. I have dedicated a room on this platform to this project.
In contrast I am moved at the deepest level, by the beauty of the landscape. In this, my work is represented by two photographs published in the Craig Potton book “New Zealand, Eye on the Landscape”.
I will be showing my work in the Ohakune winter arts festival 2026 and later plan to show my work in Auckland and Whanganui
I have held exhibitions at :
The Royal Photographic Society, Bath UK
The Watershed, Bristol UK
Lake House Arts, Auckland NZ
Mairangi Bay Arts Centre, Auckland NZ
The Bruce Mason Centre, Auckland NZ
